In a statement, South Korean health authorities said it was "reviewing the latest data available on the effectiveness of Sildenafil (Viagra) in treating erectile dysfunction".
The latest data from the research team at JAPAN showed that men with erectile dysfunction who took Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, had a 25% to 50% greater improvement in their erectile function than those who took placebo. Sildenafil, a prescription drug used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, is also approved for treating erectile dysfunction in men.
"Approximately 5 in 10 men suffer from erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil is effective in treating erectile dysfunction for many years, but many patients do not respond to Viagra," the statement said.
The research team also found that those who took Viagra had a 25% to 50% greater increase in their erectile function than those who took placebo.
The research was published online last year.
"The clinical study, carried out by our team, showed that men who took Viagra (sildenafil) had a 25% to 50% increase in their ability to achieve an erection on sexual activity," a statement said.
"In addition, the study also showed that those who took Sildenafil also had a 40% to 50% greater success rate of achieving an erection at an early age, which is why this study is ongoing in Korea."

However, the FDA said in an advisory statement that "there is no evidence that sildenafil has been found to cause adverse effects when used in combination with nitrates (often used to treat angina)."
In its response, the EMA said the drug is still in development.
